How to be Productive When You Want to be Lazy

I have the most difficult time deciding how to start each of my posts. Surely I’m not the only one? Or maybe I should take a class on how to improve my openers? ๐Ÿคท

I am someone who struggles BIG time with self motivation. I mean B-I-G time. If given the opportunity to chose between sitting on the couch watching The Office and eating junk OR doing anything at all productive, my first instinct is to put on some comfy pants and plop on down.

That was fine and dandy when I had fewer responsibilities. But I’m like a mom now. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ And if I learned anything from TV moms from my childhood it’s that I can’t just lay around watching TV and shoveling junk food into my pie hole anymore.

So, what’s a naturally lazy person to do in order to be more productive? Stick with me to find out.

Lists are an awesome way to be productive because they give you a visualization of the tasks you need to accomplish. They also come with that oh so satisfying feeling when you get to cross out a finished task.

Another great idea is to use a timer. Use the list you created of whatever it is you are wanting to do and set a timer for each new task. Example: you need to clean your kitchen, set a timer, let’s say 20 minutes, for each thing you need to clean. Once the timer goes off move on to the next task. This saves you from spending all of your energy on one or two tasks and feeling burned out.

Find a routine that works best for you and stick with it, sis!

I bet you didn’t expect to see that did you? Self love is so freaking important in literally every aspect of life. You are human, you are not perfect, and sometimes you are going to choose to sit on your bum instead of scrubbing the toilets. As long as you understand that its okay, and you don’t hate talk yourself, then everything else will be okay!

2019 will be the year of productivity in my household! I want to be a positive role model to my children so that they can learn how to balance work and play. What are some things you hope to accomplish this new year? Let us know some things that help you stay productive, even on those days when you just want to be lazy!

My All Time Favorite Social Media Platform

There is no doubt that social media plays a MAJOR role in our daily lives. It’s an addiction, really. Some of us are wise though and get to use it in excess because our business depends on it, right?! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคท

Everyone has their preferences of which platform is the best, and everyone is right. Social media works differently for each of us, that’s the beauty of it. Some people swear by Facebook while others love Instagram. (I have a love hate thing going with Insta at the moment).

For me, and my blog, I found my true love in Twitter. The whole vibe on Twitter is so much more welcoming and accepting than the other platforms. And people are so dang SUPPORTIVE! I truly couldn’t believe how supportive the blogging community on Twitter was when I first started. I expected a dog eat dog kind of mentality and boy was I pleasantly surprised when that wasn’t the case!

As far as how Twitter helps my blog, I see pretty decent consistancy on page views from my links on Twitter. The thing to understand about my relationshiop with Twitter is that I don’t use it soley as a marketing tool. I love to use it as a way to give and receive support with other bloggers.

I’ve messaged bloggers with WAY bigger followings than me to ask questions, and they have always been eager to help. It is very refreshing to have make friends with such amazing and caring people!

So, this post is dedicated to my Twitter fam! I love you all so so so much!

How to Make Christmas About More Than Just Presents

Hey, buddies! I’ve had this topic on my mind for a few weeks now as the mad rush to Christmas has been upon us. I think that sometimes it’s very easy for us to be swept away in the pressure of affording gifts for everyone we love that we forget to slow down and truly enjoy this season.

For me, in years past, I’ve been so stressed out about if I was going to be able to get so and so a present that I ended up dreading Christmas. Sis, I’m here to tell you that it’s not worth it. Christmastime should not be about spending money, it’s supposed to be about spending time.

This year I’ve been very intentional with my thoughts about Christmas. Any time I’ve felt stress or worry about affording gifts or such, I stop and think about the people I’m trying to buy gifts for and how grateful I am for each and every one of them. Once I get into a grateful mindset I’m often relieved from the pressure and able to go back to enjoying the little things that make this season so magical.

I hope that if you are feeling crushed by pressure to buy the best gift or spend the most money that this post will help you take a step back and reconsider how you should be thinking about Christmas. โค๏ธ๏ธ

๐ŸŽ„ Bake Christmas Treats.

๐ŸŽ„ Drive around and look at the lights.

๐ŸŽ„ Watch ALL of the Christmas movies you can!

๐ŸŽ„ Turn on some Christmas music and have a sing-a-long with your kids.

๐ŸŽ„ Make big cups of hot chocolate and watch the fireplace video on Netflix. (Or a real fire if you have a fireplace.)

๐ŸŽ„ Make homemade Christmas cards…

๐ŸŽ„ Or homemade Christmas crafts.

๐ŸŽ„ Visit loved ones you haven’t seen in a while.

๐ŸŽ„ Go caroling.

๐ŸŽ„ Read Christmas stories with your kids.

๐ŸŽ„ Go to a nursing home and read some Christmas stories.

๐ŸŽ„ Ring the bell for The Salvation Army.

๐ŸŽ„ Volunteer at a homeless shelter, food pantry, or any sort of community resource center.

๐ŸŽ„ Most importantly: Spend time with the people you love and make sure they know how much they mean to you! โค๏ธ๏ธ

I would love to hear what some of your favorite ways to enjoy this season are! Thank you so much for reading! โค๏ธ๏ธ

I’m Counting Calories, and that’s OKAY.

Hi, friends! If you have been following along you know that I am on the road to a healthy life. I’ve had 2 kids in under 3 years and the result is my body being close to 70 pounds heavier than before my first pregnancy.

In my last post I said that I would not be obsessing over the number on the scale. That’s still my game plan! I aim to only check my weight once a month. However, I am in fact counting calories. Not to starve myself, but more to have some accountability in my every day life.

I am a stress eater. And in this season of my life I am facing a lot of stress. So my idea of losing weight and getting healthy was all fine and dandy, except I wasn’t paying any attention to what I was eating, or in what quantities.

There is a mixed opinion in our society about counting calories. People warn against it because there are a lot of people who take it to the extreme. I’m using an app on my phone that makes it super simple to log what I’ve eaten each day. The app asked me a few questions to help give a safe and healthy allowance of calories. I’m using that number as a guideline.

I cannot stress enough that I am NOT starving myself.

Looking back on last week (my first week counting calories) I averaged about 2,100 calories a day. That number right there is a big thing holding me back!

This app has my daily calorie intake limit at 1,637.ย  That may seem like a drastic change, but it’s only about 460 calories. It predicts that if I keep my daily intake right around this number I will hit my goal weight by August. Of course I could adjust the calorie limit to speed up my end result, but that would be moving towards the unhealthy side of calorie counting.

My goal for this week is to come close to the daily limit this app has set for me, and most importantly my goal for the week is to not give up on myself.

If my posting about my journey does only one thing, I hope that it helps you realize that you can have goals for youself and you CAN accomplish them.

Health/Fitness Journey | My “Why”

Soooooo… this is probably going to be more of a ramble than anything else. I’m not entirely sure what I’m going to say.

Sometimes I’ll start a sentance and I don’t even know where it’s going. I just hope I find it along the way.

Michael Scott | The Office

I have decided I am tired of feeling unhealthy, and honestly, overweight. Don’t worry, this is not going to be a negative post. I have delivered 2 babies by ceserian in under 3 years, my body has not bounced back. I’m not ashamed of it, my body grew two of the most amazing human beings I have ever met! My body rocks! However, between these 2 pregnancies I have gained over 60 pounds, this makes my body feel tired and sluggish.

And let’s be honest, it’s hard to look down and see an entirely different body than what you were used to and still feel confident in it.

So, I’m embarking on a journey to lose the baby weight, and to get in shape. I don’t want to be that person who gets winded going up a flight of stairs. And I’m tired of being that person who’s diet is mainly made up of Taco Bell.

I am beginning this journey for:

  1. Myself: I want to feel strong, healthy, capable.
  2. My family: I don’t want my unhealthy habits affecting the quality of my time spent with my husband and children.

My thought on writing this is that if I keep up on updates through my blog then I will better hold myself accountable.

Here’s to the better version of myself that I am setting out to find! ๐Ÿ™‚

I have been seeing a rise in popularity of these phone cases, and I can understand why. The design is great for larger phones that can be difficult to hang on to. Instead of wrapping your hand around the entire phone, or Pop Socket, you can easily slide a finger or two into the loop. The price for these cases is very reasonable as well!

How To Cope With Anxiety As a Mom

Hello, lovelies. I’ve mentioned on Twitter and Instagram that for the last week or so my anxiety as peaked. I can’t really pinpoint where it’s coming from. More than likely a mixture of my still wonky post pregancy hormones and the changing seasons. Regardless of where my anxiety is stemming from, I thought this would be a good chance to talk about how to cope/deal with anxiety as a mother.

Moms, we sure think we have to be perfect all the time, don’t we? That alone creates anxiety that we like to try to shove away and pretend doesn’t exist. If you are like me you grew up in a home where feelings weren’t discussed and anxiety wasn’t a real issue, just an excuse. I sure hope you had a different growing up than that! Believe me, it has been hard trying to understand and cope with my anxiety as an adult and as a mother.

I’m not going to say that I have it figured out, because I’m not even close. I am sharing some ways that I have found have helped me before when dealing with stress and anxiety in my life.

That may sound cliche, and some may roll their eyes. But I want you to find a quiet place, sit down, close your eyes, and focus on breathing in and breathing out. There is peace to be found in intentional breathing. This is my number one way to help myself calm down and refocus.

Another practice that helps me when anxiety creeps up is taking a step back and listing off the top 10 or so things in my life I am truly grateful for.

I first tried yoga about a year after my son was born. I was still carrying around the baby weight, plus a few extra pounds, and was feeling alot of anxiety and had very low self-esteem. I was DESPERATE to find something to help me feel better. The first night, after I finished, I layed on my mat and bawled. I felt so much tension and stress flow out of my body, it was basically a religious experience. I continued practicing yoga regularly for months. I have fallen off the wagon in the last year, so I honestly think if I started again I would notice a huge difference in myself.

Communicating your feelings to someone you trust is a great way to deal with your anxiety. It could be your spouse, friend, sibling, parents, coworkers, some random lady on the Internet… *cough cough* me. Reach out for help when you need it! It isn’t a sign of weakness, but quite the opposite, reaching out to talk to someone is a sign of strength and shows your willingness to feel better. If you feel like you have no one to talk to, please shoot me an email or find me on Twitter! I mean it, sister!

I use the word hobby, but what I’m trying to say is find something, anything, to do that makes you happy and is for YOU. It could be going for a run. Reading. Sitting on your porch with a cup of coffee. Taking a bubble bath with a glass of wine. Whatever it is, make sure it is something you are doing just for you. It’s OKAY to do things for you.

These are all ways I have found to help me cope with anxiety and stress in my life. I think an important part of feeling better is acknowledging that there is something that needs help in your life. There is no shame in having anxiety. I cannot stress enough how important self care is, especially as a mother. You cannot thoroughly take care of your family if there are pieces of you that are broken. Take care of yourself, sister.

Let me put this out here one more time: I am here for you. I believe in you. I love you.

Weekend Round-Up

Hi, buddies! Boy, I’m having a tough time getting started this morning. Autumn has decided to stay this time, and we have spent the morning snuggled up watching Sesame Street. Finally, I decided it was time to get up, get a cup of coffee, and get going.

This weekend we celebrated my 25th birthday early. My birthday is tomorrow. Unlike most people, I don’t dread my birthday. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We started on Saturday by going to a pumpkin patch. At this particular one (Eckert’s, Belleville) you take a hayride back to the patch. We decided it was too windy for the baby so unfortunately we didn’t get to pick any pumpkins. We still had a blast! There was an entire area dedicated to kids, with rides and a petting zoo.

After the pumpkin patch my husband was amazed that I had never been to Target. So, we went and walked through the whole store. I cannot wait to go back!ย  We finished our trip off with an early dinner at Chick-fil-A. Yum!

Yesterday we had birthday cake with my parents, and birthday dinner with my in-laws. ๐Ÿ™‚

All in all, I had a fantastic weekend! How was yours?!

Fall Playlist | Blogtober Day 11

Hey friends! Sorry for the gap in posts, I won’t sit here and make a lot of excuses, Life. That’s enough right? The great thing about this community is that you are all so supportive, which is not what I was expecting! I honestly thought that the blogging world would be a “dog-eat-dog” place. It is so pleasantly surprising to find out how wrong I was about that!

This morning I want to talk about music. More specifically, music that I feel is good for autumn. Once October hits, it’s basically the holiday season, which means for me at least, that time rushes by. All the stress (good and bad) of preparing for the season can really speed the days. So, today, I thought I’d share a music playlist that may help slow things down and give us a chance to enjoy the moment we’re in.

Let me know if you like any of these songs, and also please leave me some suggestions of other songs to listen to! ๐Ÿ™‚

The Versatile Blogger Award

Good morning lovelies! I woke up this morning with a notification that I had been nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award! ๐Ÿ™‚ I have been blogging for about a year now, but I had ZERO confidence in myself. Discovering the blogging community on Twitter has completely changed my outlook on what I can do. Every day this community blows me away with all of their kindness and support. I was nominated by Molly over atย mindofmolly.com.

โ€ข If you are nominated, youโ€™ve been awarded the Versatile Blogger Award
โ€ข Thank the person who gave you the award
โ€ข Include a link to their blog
โ€ข Select 15 blogs/bloggers that youโ€™ve recently discovered or follow regularly
โ€ข Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award
โ€ข Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself

I am not a morning person.ย But having two children under the age of 3 forces me out of bed way sooner than I would wish. Lately, I’ve decided to start embracing the mornings. It’s a mind over matter sort of situation, with a lot of coffee! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I have 2 tattoos. I got the first one when I was 18, on a dare. It’s a poorly drawn peace sign between my shoulder blades. Maybe someday I will come up with a cool idea for a cover up. The second is on my wrist, two elephants with there trunks intertwined.ย  I got it to represent the bond between my sister and I. I intend to get at least 2 more to represent my children, once I think of what I want!

I love spaghetti! Need I say more? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m a soda addict. BUT, I gave it up one month ago! I’m pretty proud of myself for that. I used to drink nothing but Dr. Pepper 24/7.

Benjamin Burnley’s voice speaks to my soul. Okay, so you may not know who I’m talking about. He is the lead singer of Breaking Benjamin. You NEED to go listen to him. Like, drop what your doing and go listen!

I’m a sucker for self-help books. Don’t roll your eyes yet. I know alot of them are the same information over and over. I have found one book that is different. It is what has helped me realize that I can go for my dreams, for real. It’s called Girl, Wash Your Face.

I love the Sound of Music. My grandma introduced me, and we watched it every year on or around Christmas. It’s a tradition I still carry on.

My Favorite Halloween Costume | Blogtober Day 5

Hey, friends! Welcome back! In the spirit of all things October and Halloween I’m going to share with you my favorite costume as a child.

Growing up, my parents didn’t have a ton of money, so my costumes were generally thrown together with what we had laying around. I’ve been a pumpkin, a scarecrow, a vampire, a princess.. etc.

My all time favorite thing to dress up as was none other than a witch! I’d say I dressed up as a witch at least 4 years in a row. Each year we changed it up a little bit from the year before. A few years I would try to be as scary of a witch as possible, and then the other years I went for a cuter look.

I wish I had some pictures to show y’all! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

What was your favorite costume as a kid? Do you still dress up now? If so, give me some ideas down below! ๐Ÿ™‚

What I’m Currently Reading

(I am NOT being paid to right this.)

Hey buddies! Today I’m sharing with you what book I am reading at the moment.

GUYS! You HAVE to check this one out! I’m sure most of you have heard of it, it’s on fire right now, and for good reason!

I haven’t finished it yet, I’m about half way through, and I couldn’t be more pleased with my purchase. Rachel gives it to you real, and tells you what you need to hear.

If you are in a rut and needing some inspiration, PLEASE buy this book and read it. She covers almost every “lie” that I have ever told myself about myself. Her real life stories are super relate-able.

One big idea that I am taking away from this book and currently applying to my life is breaking promises to myself. I am super bad about telling myself that I am going to do something, and then finding reasons to push it aside.

If you like this book and haven’t found Rachel on social media yet, I strongly suggest you do! She has a website, TheChicSite.com, where you can find anything from recipes to DIYs, to real life motherhood.

It’s easy to see why I am taking such a liking to her, huh? ๐Ÿ™‚

So, if any of you lovelies decide to read this book, let’s start a discussion!

Coping with A.M.H.

Hi friends, welcome back. Today we’re going to talk about A.M.H. syndrome. This typically occurs to mothers whose days just don’t have enough hours.

Oh wait, you’re probably wondering what A.M.H. syndrome is.

Always Messy House.

I know, surely, I am not alone in this uphill battle to keep my house from looking like a hurricane just came ripping through.

I’m here to tell you, it’s OKAY.

As a full time working mom of two, my days fly by. I often feel guilt, you heard me, GUILT when I don’t have time to clean.

I’m laughing to myself right now when I think about the fact that I have, on multiple occasions, stressed myself out to the point of tears because my house almost never looks “perfect”.

I think it’s society’s fault. We are bombarded by the idea that we have to keep our houses clean, and organized, and PERFECT at all times.

I’m here to tell you it’s not realistic to believe these things. Life happens. If you didn’t get a chance today to wash your dishes, don’t sweat it, neither did I.

I’m teaching myself to enjoy the moments with my kids while they are happening, and worry about the mess later.

(I’m not promoting living in squander, I’m simply saying don’t make yourself sick over messes that can wait until your kids are in bed.) ๐Ÿ™‚

So, mommas, I hope this helps you take a deep breath and know that you aren’t alone. I am right there with you, stepping through my house like I’m walking through a field full of land mines.

We Co-sleep (And that’s okay.)

Woah. It’s been awhile since I’ve sat down and written a post. It’s been awhile since I’ve had the energy to be inspired enough to do so. Life with 2 kids is great, don’t get me wrong, I just don’t think I was mentally prepared for how exhausted I would be! Neverless, being a mommy is the greatest blessing I’ve ever received! I wake up every day so thankful.

On the topic of being a mother, can we take a minute to talk about “mom shaming”. It’s a real and serious issue in our society these days. Every day on all platforms of social media I come across posts of moms shaming other moms for the most random things. It’s out of hand.

One of the topics that I see moms get “yelled” at most about is co-sleeping. There is a huge stigma in our society that sleeping with our children is a bad thing. We are pushed so hard to sleep train and make sure our children can sleep alone from birth on.

(I understand that co-sleeping does have the risk of possibly killing your child. That’s why I am going to link some products that help prevent that from happening.)

Now, co-sleeping isn’t for everyone. And I’m not going to write this post as my form of shaming anyone who chooses not to do so.

I’m writing this to raise awareness to shaming. To explain mine and my husband’s choice of co-sleeping with our son.

When Titan was born we were new parents, clueless as to what to do. For the first few months of his life we struggled to sleep train. We spent countless nights getting up several times to put him back to sleep in his crib. It was mentally and physically exhausting. Now, I don’t remember exactly when we started letting Titan sleep in bed with us. But, I do remember the intense mixture of fear and relief that it brought us.

On one hand, he was finally sleeping through the night, even skipping an overnight feeding. It was so freaking amazing to finally get one long stretch of sleep every night.

On the other hand, we were afraid of, well, killing our baby. So, when I say that we started getting a full nights sleep, it was a very fragile sleep. I woke up every time I moved, or Titan moved, or Barak moved.

As I mentioned before, there are products on the market that strive to make co-sleeping easier and safer. We slept with pillows between us and him to keep us from rolling over on top of him.

2.5 years later, Titan still sleeps with us. We have grown very accustomed to him being there. There is the question of when do we start to transition him into his own bed. We’ve talked about this for over a year now. Within the last few weeks, we moved his bed into our room. This gives him the ability to sleep in his own bed, with the comfort of knowing we are still nearby. And, most nights, he still wakes up and climbs into bed with us.

Fun fact: co-sleeping with your children is normal almost everywhere else in the world besides America. Why do you think that is???

We are okay with our choice of co-sleeping. And that’s okay. And if there are parents out there who don’t like the idea of co-sleeping, that’s okay. Do you see where I’m going with this?

It’s OKAY to have a parenting style different from someone else’s. It’s okay to make choices for your children that go against popular social belief. It’s NOT okay to spend your day hiding behind a keyboard making other mom’s feel like failures just because they do things differently than you.

Wow. What a bold post I am writing after being MIA for so long. But it feels good!

Co-sleep. Don’t co-sleep. Just love each other and support one another. Accept that we are all different, and as long as our children are happy and healthy, that’s all that matters.

Rant over. ๐Ÿ™‚

I am not affiliated with any brand, just showing you all an option out there. ๐Ÿ™‚

Bucket List | Summer 2018

Hey y’all! I think all of us here in Southern Illinois have no doubt that summer is upon us. I’m a little confused on where spring went? Did we even have a spring this year?! Oh well, summer it is. I thought it would be fun to share a bucket list of things I want to do this summer. As many of you know, I am days away from having baby number 2. ๐Ÿ™‚ So, having a newborn will define my summer. The Story Behind My Son’s Name

Hey buddies! Today I’m going to share with you the answer to a question that I get a lot.

Like, ALOT.

That is: How did we come up with our son’s name?

If you don’t already know, I have a 2 year old son, and his name is… drum roll… Titan Alexander.

Most people think I’m saying Tyson when I tell them his name, but it’s definitely TITAN. ๐Ÿ™‚

You would probably think that there is a very elaborate and long story behind our decision, but there really isn’t.

We first discovered the name on our way home from the doctor’s office after we found out gender. I Googled the top 100 boy names of 2015. After listing off at least 50 names and my husband saying no I came across the name Titan. That year it was number 99 out of 100 most popular names. Once I said it, we both looked at each other and didn’t instantly say NOPE.ย  That was the first name we both mutually liked, but we still thought about it for a few days before we made a definite decision.

My husband is a big Sci-fi fan, and loves anything and everything relating to outer space. The name Titan fit well with his interests. Flash forward 2 years and Titan is also a big lover of outer space, specifically the moon which he looks for every night. It’s so neat to watch him and his personality grow and see the similarities between him and my husband.

As far as his middle name, we simply thought the name Alexander flowed well. Pretty basic explanation there haha.

There ya have it, it’s not a super fancy story, but that’s okay! I hope you all enjoyed reading and I’ll see you back here soon! ๐Ÿ™‚

If My Body Could Talk It Would Say…

Hey sis, it’s your body here. Yeah that thing you always talk so negatively about. You know what I’m referring to, all the hours of your day spent hating what I look like. You nit pick every inch of me, compare me to other bodys you see. You spend all of your free time and every minute in between wishing I were something else.

Can you take a second to hush that white noise in your brain. Silence the negativity. Turn it off. And open your eyes. Really look at me. Please go stand in front of your mirror right now and take me all in. Look at me with fresh eyes and a softer perspective.

I have carried you through 25 years of life. Great days and terrible moments. You wouldn’t even be experiencing any of it without me. Those laugh lines forming are indicators of joy. Those wrinkles on your forehead show the worries and struggles we have overcome.

These arms that are floppier than they used to be craddle your most precious gifts.

All of those stretch marks and all the extra squish that you hate so much is a direct result of the AMAZING things I have done. I, your body, have twice created, carried and birthed two beautiful little humans.

These thighs and hips that no longer fit in your favorite pants set off a passionate fire within your husband.

Please stop and think about that magic the next time you start hating the way I look. I am a warrior.

I could use some care, it’s true. But I’m not as terrible and atrocious to look at as you let yourself believe.

Be kind to me. Give me some grace. Share some love my way. We’re in this together so stop treating me like the enemy.

Love you forever,

Your body.
